Our Method

Our goals

Consistent,
High-Quality Results

DMC’s approach to machining is very methodical, paying strict attention to every detail
to assure consistent, high-quality results.

All unique tooling, fixtures or work holding requirements are designed in-house and sourced to approved local or on-site vendors. After customer approval of pre-production launch, every job is kitted ahead of time which includes any special tools, work holding jaws/fixtures, operator’s book and control plan/blueprints. Since any part can run across any machine, the contents are loaded onto carts and brought to the machine along with the raw material, inspection equipment and shipping/packaging materials.

Setup

The CNC program is downloaded, along with any electronic set-up instructions for the particular part (or family of like kind parts), and the information is available at the machine controller for easy access.  All DMC machines utilize a standard turret layout which makes change overs as quick and efficient as possible.  First part inspection is completed and signed off before being scanned as a part of DMC quality record-keeping prior to production release.

Inspections

The control plan developed for each part, outlines each part feature, the inspection
equipment to be used, interval inspection requirements along with in-process inspection
sheets that are compiled during production. All inspection records are scanned and retained
per company procedures on a cloud-based data system. At the start of each shift, the DMC
associate completes a first article inspection of key characteristics before initiating the
gantry robot to start production. In addition, preventative maintenance steps are completed
at the start of each shift, and throughout the day, to insure optimal performance and long-
term upkeep of the machines.

Details Matter

During production, the interior of the machine tool is cleaned (wash down) prior to every restart, and perishable tooling is visually inspected via watchmaker’s loupe.  Tool change intervals are established for every consumable (either based upon number of parts run or cut time duration), and replacement tooling is stocked at each machine for timely replacements of worn items.  DMC uses bar coded container labels for every lot and custom packaging materials to ensure parts are transported safely on customer consigned logistics.
